My Nigeria Story: Don’t judge by what you hear #IAmNigeria

     The Nigeria of my dreams has always been the opposite of how people see her. My name is Stephen Oladejo, I am from Nigeria, and I am very sure what most non-Nigerians think about my country once they hear it is that,”It’s the home of scammers,” or “the empire of fraud and yahoo boys!”

Some even see her as “the world’s capital of corruption,” because of the leaders that are in the government, or “the most dangerous place on Earth, “due to the civil unrest predominant in the nation.” Most are misconceptions, because they are just judging my country like ” reviewing a lengthy note just by it’s cover.” There is actually more to my country than what people know. Every country has had a fair share of what my country is experiencing currently, and it’s no doubt we have flaws. Nigeria in it’s real sense, is actually a beautiful nation with a diverse and rich culture, with very patriotic citizens, accommodating one of the best landscapes never before seen on the African continent. Whenever i think about her, I see a land of prosperity, a land with the potential for exceptional growth, a land with one of the greatest minds on the face of the Earth. It’s a sad thing Nigeria’s glory is negatively impacted by the caliber of leaders she has, leaders that paint a reverse picture of who we Nigerians really are. Being a Nigerian means a lot to me, i see myself as a lucky citizen of ” the Giant of Africa!”.. My country is known all over Africa for her mighty economy and human power. Nothing happens on the continent without my country’s opinion on how to solve. Even though my nation is experiencing setbacks now, i believe she shall overcome soon. In midst of these, my loyalty to her will be unwavering, i shall uphold her with all my might. After all, if home (Nigeria) is taken away from me, where do I go? She is all i have, I am Stephen, this is my Nigeria, and she means a lot to me, no matter what others say or think, she will always be forever engraved on my heart as ” _my blessed motherland_ , ” this is how i think of my Nigeria!
